Can I use credit cards & USD in Malaysia? The Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) is the common currency in Malaysia, USD and credit cards are also widely accepted in most hotels and shopping centers. However, it is always advisable to carry some MYR cash on you. You can also find ATMs at airports and in most major cities to exchange MYR, usually with a 3% fee.

When is the best time to travel to Malaysia? Generally speaking, February to September is a nice period with mild temperatures and more sunny days for outdoor activities like the Borneo adventure or the Malacca heritage exploration. And your beach holiday could be more flexible since the tropical monsoon climate makes the west and east coasts share different rainy seasons. West Coast: November to March is an excellent time to enjoy beach activities as there is less rain and wind. From September to October, rain often falls at night, which not only does not interfere with outdoor activities but also brings a touch of coolness while still enjoying discounted prices. East Coast: April to October is a great time to enjoy the cozy sandy beaches with the calm sea breeze to take away the dryness and heat. Meanwhile, November to February is more suitable for city exploration such as the Penang’s delicacy, with lower prices as the rain takes away most of the heat.

Do I need travel health insurance for Malaysia? Although it is not a legal requirement to have health insurance in Malaysia, it is highly recommended that you do so before traveling. Try to avoid raw or undercooked food during your trip and it is advisable to drink bottled or boiled water for your health.

How many days should I stay in Malaysia? Typically, a stay of around 8 days can show you the essential charm of Malaysia with the main city of Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Malacca, the vibrant jungle with its amazing wildlife as well as the sunny beaches. A stay of 15 days is also recommended for further exploration of the underwater world or a deeper adventure around the Borneo volcano in search of wild rhinos, orangutans, and hornbills. If you're fascinated by the local indigenous culture, is also a good idea to visit the unique charms of several indigenous communities.

Is tipping common in Malaysia? Tipping is not customary in Malaysia. However, it is important to note that some restaurants include a 10 percent service charge in the bill. Of course, you can also leave a 10% tip for your driver or waiter if you appreciate their service.
